Join Open’s reading club this summer! We are partnering with the Long Beach Public Library to get together and discuss Felicia Day’s You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) on Wednesday, June 29th, 2016.
There will be a general mixer starting at 5:30, and the book discussion will start at 6! We hope to see you there!
About the Book
Interested in Internet culture? Goodreads summarizes the memoir, saying “From online entertainment mogul, actress, and ‘queen of the geeks’ Felicia Day, a funny, quirky, and inspiring memoir about her unusual upbringing, her rise to Internet-stardom, and embracing her individuality to find success in Hollywood…Hilarious and inspirational, You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) is proof that everyone should embrace what makes them different and be brave enough to share it with the world, because anything is possible now—even for a digital misfit.” Read the full summary here.
The actress/author/Internet sensation is also a leader of her own book club, which is dedicated to romance novels featuring powerful female leads. Her lifelong love of books made the transition from reader to writer a smooth one.
The AV Club’s review says, “Day writes like she’s an old friend emailing you to catch you up on her life. She writes personably about her odd childhood, including her hippie parents and a slipshod homeschooling, ending when she attended college at age 16.”
Nerdist calls her stories “real, heart felt, and identifiable,” even for people who are not immersed in gaming culture or up-to-date on the details of Internet stardom. And for those who have been following Day’s career and rise to fame since the beginning, this book is a perfect way to get a peek into the parts of her life that she doesn’t share on YouTube, the Guild, or one of her many podcasts!
The book is available from all Long Beach Public Libraries or purchase from Amazon here.
